The Skiszene Altenberger as the first skischool in Leogang was officially founded in 1952 by Sepp Altenberger. Already the years before he was working as a ski instructor for the noble guests of the Badhaus Leogang like Herbert von Karajan and Theodor Heuß (the later federal president of Germany).

The career from the farmers boy the the ski school owner was a long way. The training to the Landesschilehrer took place in winter 1946 at the Obertauern. Straight after that he started in Bad Leogang with the first ski lessons. The next aim was the  „State approved ski instructor“ combined with a praxis of 3 years allows you to lead a ski school.  For this education he had to visit the "Federal Institute of exercise" in Innsbruck for 2 terms in the years 1948 and 1949.

The practical part of the education was held in the Bundessportschule St. Christoph am
Arlberg. His teacher was the famous inventor of the modern Austrian ski technique  (known as „Wedeln“) Professor Stephan Kruckenhauser.

In 1950 the freshly approved ski instructor came back to Leogang, but because of the lack of practical years he had to work in Zell am See in the ski school Roßmann.

On the 20th of November 1952 the land Salzburg allowed Sepp Altenberger to run his own ski school. While his ski instructing he was present at a lot of races in Salzburg and Tyrol. From the high alpine Glockner race in the year 1949 until the world champion title in senior class in Schladming in the year 2008.
